On January 21, Simon Calonne, co-founder, participated in a roundtable on defense AI organized by the Defense Industry Committee of the Jeunes IHEDN at the École Militaire in Paris. The discussion brought together government actors, investors and defense startups to exchange perspectives on how artificial intelligence is reshaping the defense innovation landscape.
One point clearly emerged from the conversation: AI is not about replacing human decision-making on the battlefield. Its real value lies in helping operators process information faster, understand complex situations more clearly, and act with greater speed and precision.
The discussion also highlighted how the model of defense innovation is evolving. The emergence of mission-driven startups, combined with faster development cycles and closer links to operational needs, is changing how new capabilities are designed and deployed. In recent years, the rapid adaptation of civilian technologies for military use (particularly visible in Ukraine) has shown how quickly innovation can translate into operational advantage.
For EGIDE, these conversations reinforce a conviction we share with many actors in the ecosystem: the future of defense innovation will be shaped by agile teams capable of moving quickly from concept to capability.
Our work on autonomous interceptor systems reflects that same ambition: developing new tools that help operators regain control of increasingly contested airspace and respond to the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial systems.
We thank the Jeunes IHEDN for organizing this discussion and for bringing together such an engaged community working on the future of European defense innovation.
